The photos

Getting the photos right is most of the work.

Colour is the thing people get wrong most often, and it is almost always the lighting rather than the hair. Follow these four and we can match you with real confidence.

Natural daylight only

Stand near a window or step outside in the shade. No overhead bulbs, no bathroom lights, no filters — they shift your tone by two or three levels.

Dry and unstyled

Wet hair reads several shades darker and hides your texture. Skip the curls, the straightener and any shine spray on the day you photograph.

One from the back

Ask someone to take it, or stand with your back to a mirror. This is where we judge density and how much hair you actually need.

A close-up of your ends

Hold a section up towards the light. Ends are usually lighter and warmer than roots, and blending them is what makes extensions disappear.

Two extras that help. A photo with your hair pulled up off your face, so we can see the crown — and any inspiration photo of the look you’re after. If you already have extensions in, send a shot of those too and tell us what you disliked.

Questions people ask first

How long until I hear back?

We answer within one business day. If you’re working to a date — a wedding, a shoot, a trip — say so in your email and we’ll prioritise it and factor shipping into the plan.

Does it cost anything?

No. The consultation is free and there’s no obligation to order. We’d rather you bought the right hair once than the wrong hair twice.

What if my photos aren’t perfect?

Send them anyway. If we can’t read your colour confidently we’ll say so and ask for one more shot rather than guessing.

Can you help if I’m a stylist ordering for a client?

Yes, and we’re glad to. Mention it in your email — we’ll write back in professional terms with weights, rows and colour formulas, and point you to our stylist program.

What happens to my photos afterwards?

They stay in your consultation thread. We don’t add them to a marketing list, publish them, or share them with anyone outside Ouielle unless you tell us in writing that we can.

I already ordered. Can you still help?

Of course. Send the same photos plus what you bought and we’ll tell you how to make it work — or what to change.
